What is a Keyword?
My “Keyword” for the example below is..how to get six pack abs fast.
As you can see, a keyword isn't just a single word but usually a search term or phrase. The phrase "how to get six pack abs fast" would be called a long tail keyword, whereas the term six pack abs would be the keyword.
With a good keyword tool, you can target groups of people all searching with the same idea or term/phrase and there are many keywords for any topic that you're researching.
Some things to look for on how to choose a title for your post, article or page.
- Searches per month.
This shows the average number of people searching for that chosen keyword each and every month. So before you write your article you can search out a keyword that has a certain amount of searches each month and use as a title and in the first paragraph.
- Quoted Search Results
This shows the number of competing websites ranked in Google for this particular keyword. So if you were to see, as below, a lot of competing sites in that particular keyword, you might want to chose another because your chances on getting on the first page of Google are very slim..and also listed in the SEO column.
- Traffic to your website
This column shows the number of visitors to your website that you can expect with a post or an article that gets on the 1st page of search results for google. That should be the real aim of any article posted online because stats show that most people will only look on the first search page. So you can see the importance of knowing how to choose a title for your article or post.
- Keyword Quality Indicator
This column shows whether the keyword is a green-good quality, yellow-ok or red-poor quality keyword. It's kind of obvious that you'll want to post your article where the keyword is green, but yellow gets more challenging and red is a poor choice for the title of your article.
This column shows the score based on traffic and competition...the higher the score the more likely that you'll rank on the first page with this keyword. If you see the chart below, even though the lines with the most searches at over 4000..there is much competition so your chances to get to google's first search page is slim or quite a bit more challenging.
There are a great variety of keyword tools online for you to purchase but let me give you a very simple example...
If you were to enter a google search for say...how to get six pack abs fast...you'll see as you type that in, that under the bar are a list of the most popular "keywords" that people use to search for the topic.
Now on a basic google search you'll see 4 or 5 of the most popular keywords listed and that's all of the information that you'll get. None of the info previously listed above (and see below) that you should see with a good keyword tool.
Now if you're trying to reach as many people as possible in a particular topic and you have a great keyword tool like say Jaxxy - the worlds most advanced keyword tool, you are able to reach so many more people due to the amount of info revealed in the tool. See in the example:
Now if I was to choose the keywords listed above and used them for the titles of my articles and posts I would reach soo many more people every month than if I just made something else up as a title.
So for any kind of online research or business, you will really need a good keyword tool to be successful.
Please check out my review for the Jaxxy Keyword Tool. I use it every time that I write and wouldn't be without it. I really didn't understand just how valuable a tool it was at first but I've come to depend on it almost daily.
